My Life As An Activist

To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA)

This organization was created to help those suffering from depression and other mental disorders, suicidal thoughts, drug or alcohol addiction, or self-mutilation. It was founded by Jamie Tworkowski with the intent of spreading the word that you shouldn't be ashamed of any of these issues but there ARE resources available to help you. No one should have to go through something like that alone, especially when there are so many options today. This organization is truly and inspiration and is a great way of letting the population know that they are not alone. TWLOHA Day

Spread Awareness!
Project Homeless Connect

One Day. One Stop. One Community.

This past February, Greenville held an event called Project Homeless Connect, which is a movement that focuses on trying to eradicate homelessness in Pitt County within the next 10 years. On this day, the homeless community were able to get their needs fulfilled in attempts to get them on the right track in life. Among the services provided were medical care, dental care, grooming and hygiene, job placement and employment tactics, food stamps and medicaid information, housing information, breakfast and lunch, and many other important necessities that we all take for granted. I, along with Erin volunteered although I wasn't able to do as much as others because of my recent surgery. It was still a very humbling experience and one that I will never forget. We all take advantage of the things we have in our lives and how much a smile or just making small talk could impact someone else's life. Erin and I excited about giving back

It was a long day but very humbling!

Toms
One Day Without Shoes
April 10th

Toms is a company founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie after traveling to Argentina and finding thousands of children were walking around with no shoes to protect their feet. His goal for founding Toms was to help those children from being exposed to diseases and injuries that could be caused from not having proper footwear. For every pair of Toms that is sold, he donates a pair to a child in need. Eventually glasses were added and now for every pair of glasses that are purchased, Tom donates a pair to a needy child.

Every year to raise awareness to the cause, Toms holds One Day Without Shoes to raise awareness of this serious issue and to help others understand, if for only one day, how it would be to go without shoes.
