My Life As A Writer

I Write Therefore I Am….

For as long as I can remember, writing has been my passion. Me, being the determined person I am, decided I was going to be a writer no matter what. I took Honors English classes in high school and was always reading and writing anything I could get my hands on.

Prior to graduation from East Carolina University I knew that I needed to get my foot in the door in order to accomplish the goals I set for myself. So I took a part-time position at  the college's newspaper publication called The East Carolinian (TEC). This is in addition to the full-time job I hold down as a pharmacy technician.

Through my writing experience at TEC my growth as a journalist flourished and I was able to meet and interview quite a few amazing people. One being singer/songwriter, "Outtasight" who performed his hit song "Tonight is the Night" at Rehab Lounge in Downtown Greenville. Here is the link to my article.  http://theeastcarolinian.com/?p=3162

I also met a courageous woman, named Megin Chapman, who beat the odds and miraculously came out of a coma induced by organ failure and lung cancer. I was able to meet and talk to a  young girl with cerebral palsy named Erin Stokes who (through adaptations in her home) is able to live almost the same as you and I. I treasured these experiences because afterwards you can reflect on your life and realize that your struggles are nothing compared to what others are going through. In November/December I worked with The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce to write an article for their annual Windows of Wayne catalog. http://www.epageflip.net/title/16057. This assignment was so difficult (insert sarcastic tone). My assignment consisted of me touring a farm, seeing all the animals, and eating cheese. How much better can it get? Their  delicious chevre cheese is made fresh at this facility and is truly amazing. It comes in many different flavors including blue cheese, chive, and jalapeno. Interested? Now that I have graduated I have more time to devote to my writing. I am always trying to better myself whether it be personally or professionally and I believe one should never stop trying to learn. Currently, I am a feature writer for The Buzz Around Wayne County, a new publication in Wayne County. This magazine targets local people and local businesses in hopes to increase revenue for the county. http://www.thebuzzaroundwaynecounty.com/#!home|mainPage. My first two articles can be found at this link. This publication has really taken off in the last few months and both my editor and I are excited about the possibilities it might bring.

Regardless, I will never stop writing. Even if my fingers get cut off. I will just have to learn to use my feet. It is a part of me and it has seen me through my roughest days along with God's help. I am thankful every day that truly am able to do what I love.
